ANDERSON — Playing through heavy rain throughout Friday’s North Central Conference football game, Marion’s JK Thomas ran for four touchdowns in the Giants’ 53-0 victory over the Indians.
Marion improved to 4-0, 2-0 NCC for its best start since the 2006 season. Anderson dropped to 0-4, 0-2 NCC.
Thomas set the tone on the second play from scrimmage when the 5-foot-8 running back broke a tackle at the line of scrimmage and was off to the races for a 49-yard TD run.
The Indians rushed for negative 30 yards and their offense took a further hit when quarterback Xander Stokes was injured late in the first half. Stokes had been 12-of-22 passing for 81 yards when he left the game, and backup Slavin was 3-of-10 for 8 yards and had one pass picked off. Marion also had a second pass interception of Conner Stephenson.
Junior wide receiver Malachi Qualls had 9 catches for 42 yards. Qualls continues to lead the nation in receptions, now with 50 overall through four weeks.
The Indians travel to NCC foe Harrison (West Lafayette) this Friday for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
